All Things Organized
Even the Rain

I keep all things organized by thinking through potentially dangerous and difficult times.

For example being safe during a huge rainstorm takes some organizing ability.

A few weeks ago the area I live, in the Milwaukee area in Southeastern Wisconsin, got hit with a huge with a huge rainstorm. At least 5 inches of rain hit most areas with some areas getting over 10 inches. This is a ton of rain and is called the 100 year rain or larger.

It is really hard to be prepared for that much water. It causes all kinds of problems and it is hard to keep all things organized in that case.

The way I think about these types of problems is what can I do myself to keep myself and the people who count on me, my 2 kids and my ex-wife, safe.

Here is a list to start you thinking:

1) I avoid going out in the rain if possible.

2) I unplug my most important electronics so they do not get impacted by lightning.

3) I keep the gas in my car at least at half full so I am not fearful of running out of gas right when I need my car the most.

4) I know where all the low areas are in my City so that I can avoid driving in these areas.

5) If I come up to a flooded area, I think a lot about turning around rather than driving through.

6) If I decide to drive through the water I keep in the center of the road because it is the highest part of the road.

7) I avoid driving at night because it is even harder to see the flooding.

8) I drive slowly through water. The splashing of water up into your engine is what kills the motor.

9) I know I will get wet if I go out, so I just brace myself for that. I do not run in the rain. Running in the rain seems like a good way to slip and fall and really get hurt.

10) I try to wear contacts rather than glasses in the rain.

11) I am considering getting a 4 wheel drive vehicle to be safer in the rain.

12) I change my wiper blades every 6 months and buy a decent brand. This helps for driving in the rain.

13) I replace my car tires often for better traction in the rain.

This type of active planning to keep all things organized really helps to keep you safe and reduces your stress levels.
