Event Planning
The Organized Tailgate Party

Event Planning is the key ingredient for having a really organized tailgate party.

Some people are really good at having a great and organized tailgate party.

They have great food, plenty of snacks and a variety of beverages.

Everything is set up nicely, right out of the back of a vehicle. It's amazing.

When you get there, everyone is sitting in lawn chairs with a drink, the grill is heating or the food is cooking. They may be playing the bean bag toss game or socializing.

What you don't see is the effect of the effort and planning that goes into the process beforehand and the putting away after the event. That is where the process starts.

Who would want to organize a tailgate party every 2 weeks or once a month if the work took a superhuman effort? So you have to do your event planning work to make it possible to have the fun tailgate parties with a minimum of hassle.

I went to a tailgate party the other night for a Milwaukee Brewer baseball game.

The fellow who had the tailgate did all the tailgating chores for the game and the other 2 games I had attended earlier this year. It appears that he does this a lot and is very organized about it.

He brings the following;

1) Medium sized charcoal Weber grill.

2) Charcoal.

3) Cooking utensils.

4) Meat to grill and buns.

5) Condiments for the meat.

6) Snacks.

7) Medium sized cooler full of beverages.

8) Bean bag toss game.

9) Lawn chairs.

10) Tarp and ropes in case it rains.

11) Sandbags to hold the tarp in place.

All this stuff fits in the back of his Chevy Tahoe.

One thing I just thought of to make tailgating even more organized is a box that the grill would fit into so that when you hit a bump while driving the dirt and dust from the grill doesn't spill out.

The guy does empty it before putting it into his truck but it is difficult to get it completely clean. A box would really help to make the transport of the grill fantastically easy.

You could make a box out of wood that is just a little bigger than your grill. You could have handles for even a better box.

The other option is buying a plastic bin that is big enough for your grill.

He is the friend of a friend. I have been to 3 tailgate parties with him and they have all been nicely done.

They are not overboard either. You know, the kind where the host has to work like a dog running around.

That kind of party is not that good because the host cannot enjoy it.

He brings just the right amount of food too. That way the food is eaten up and he does not have to deal with leftovers later.

He plans it so there is enough for everyone but no leftovers. Leftovers are thrown out.

He brings enough beverages also. But not so many that he needs a gigantic cooler.

It is just about the perfect event planning setup for about 1-1/2 hours of tailgating.

Right before the game he puts everything away so he can easily leave after the game.

The hot coals are dumped out, the garbage bags are thrown away and the stuff is packed neatly away in the truck.

He packs it in the way it can be taken from the pack of his truck and put away most easily in his garage when he gets home.

He has his garage set up so that he can put all the items away quickly when he gets home and then be ready quickly for the next tailgate party.

Do your event planning in this way and you will have a much more rewarding tailgate party experience.
