My Life Organized
2009 List

I just discovered a new way for me to keep my life organized and on track. It is a list with a summary of the highlights of my accomplishments, what I have done and anything else I want to remember from 2009.

I summarized on one sheet of paper what I did in 2009. I actually woke up about 3 hours early today thinking about this. It just hit me that today is New Year's Eve and I would want something to talk about with friends and people I meet tonight and over the next few weeks.

You know, you'll be talking and someone will ask you what you did this past year and you will normally say, oh, not much.

Not this time for me. I have a whole list of the highlights for this past year. I went through my monthly calendar and the information in my Planner Book and elsewhere to just list all the highlights of this past year. All in all, 2009 was a good year for me.

I am thinking that this summary is something that I will do every year from now on. I may even go back to my prior year's calendars and do the same thing. I can see that it works better if you do it at the end of the current year because the memory is still fresh.

After doing this summarizing I now know what to summarize on each month to make it even easier next year and get my life organized even better.

If you are interested I have listed some of my highlights (some things are too personal to share):

1) Divorce final.

2) Started this website and worked on it steadily to meet a number of milestones.

3) 3 day vacation in Northern Wisconsin with my kids and parents.

4) Spent 3 summer holiday weekends at my friend's summer river house.

5) Golfed 4 times.

6) Swam 7 times.

7) Walked 77 times.

8) Tread milled 8 times.

9) Biked 6 times.

10) Lifted weights 32 times.

11) Went to 1 Green Bay Packer football game.

12) Went to 1 Wisconsin Badger football game.

13) Went to 4 Milwaukee Brewer baseball games, including going to opening day for the first time.

14) Went to my cousins wedding and saw all the family.

15) Went 8 times to summer festivals and fairs.

16) Saw my kids 89 times.

17) Saw my parents 23 times.

18) Saw my best friend 30 times.

19) Went out for drinks _ times.

20) Met _ girls.

21) Went on _ dates.

This long list is not meant to bore you with the details of my life but as a way for you to think about the types of things you would have on your own list for the last year.

I really recommend that you put together a list like this. It has made me fondly recall this past year and now I am looking forward to 2010. This list is another way for me to get my life organized and to see that I did have a good year.

After all, why should you just look at the lists that others put together in the papers and on TV? Put together your own get my life organized list of what you did in 2009. It will mean more to you than any list someone else does.
