Use a Briefcase as a
Personal Organizer

A well organized briefcase can be extremely useful as a personal organizer. I started using a briefcase when we were remodeling our first house. The house was small and my wife had a huge amount of stuff. We were remodeling our kitchen. It took about six months.

So in the time that the kitchen was being worked on we had to put all the stuff from the kitchen into the basement. The only place that had any room at all was my well-organized basement office. My office became so jammed with stuff that I couldn’t do anything even as simple as writing a check to pay a bill. At that point I couldn’t use my basement office at all and had to start using the briefcase office system.

I used my briefcase as a personal organizer portable office system and was able to pay all the bills on time, kept important papers filed, studied other subjects, read articles, read books, kept track of the remodeling costs, wrote letters, looked at other houses for sale, started our son in a new school and kept track of all the normal papers and things that a family does.

The briefcase personal organizer system saved me and allowed me to be organized in spite of not having a desk. The only time I went to my office was to drop off papers from my to file folder in a basket in the office to file later. The major items to keep in your briefcase are:

1. File of bills to be paid.

2. Stamps.

3. Return address stickers or stamp pad.

4. Two Pens.

5. One mechanical Pencil.

6. One pair of scissors.

7. Calculator.

8. Eraser.

9. Scotch tape on a dispenser.

10. Return addresses labels.

11. Envelopes.

12. Post-it notes.

13. White out.

14. Stapler.

15. Paper clips.

16. One Highlighter.

17. Rubber bands.

18. Hole punch.

19. Pad of paper.

20. “To File” file.

21. “To Read” file.

22. “To Do” file.

23. Book or magazine that you are currently reading.

24. Files of whatever you are working on at the time.

You make think that this is a lot of stuff to carry in a briefcase but you really don’t carry it that much. It can be very heavy if you have a lot of bills to pay and you are working on a number of projects that involve a lot of paperwork.

It’s a great idea to have as large of a briefcase as you can find. Briefcases are made quite strong and you can fit a lot of stuff in there. It’s really rewarding to have all the various things you’re working on right by you. A lot of times you only need a few minutes to accomplish a great deal with this personal organizer briefcase system.

In fact, I liked my briefcase personal organizer office system so much I made it a permanent portable office for the next seven years.

When my kids were small it was really nice to do my paperwork around them. I got a lot of pleasure from sitting at the dining room table on Saturday mornings and writing out the bills, organizing the finances, reading the correspondence from the previous week and writing out my plans and goals. I would have a few cups of coffee while I did this, the kids would be watching cartoons or playing and my wife would be sleeping in or working around the house.
