Planning for the Worst

A planning schedule and list of things you normally need to do, have and get will help you to be more organized.

In order to determine what is really necessary it is helpful to think of some of the worst problems, annoyances and frustrations that you have had.

This is not negative thinking. I know you are supposed to only think positive. Well, I am positive that if you do not think ahead and plan your life will be very difficult. It is just pragmatic thinking.

So start by thinking of problems you might have had and what you can do to avoid these negative situations. Things like:

1) Running out of quarters when you are trying to do the laundry. I now get my quarters in ten dollar rolls every 2 weeks and I always save all my quarters from change. I have a little jar by my laundry supplies that I keep adding the quarters to.

2) Having worn out shoes when you are taking a walk. My feet ache if I wear worn out shoes. I hate that feeling and it makes me not want to walk. I budget for new shoes as often as necessary.

3) Running out of gas. Not only is this frustrating, it can be deadly if you run out in the wrong place. Just make it a point to fill up when you get to half full.

4) Your car breaking down from a problem you know about. If you know about, you must act.

5) Running out of toilet paper. Toilet paper is not that expensive but it is so needed.

6) Having no money on you. There is never a time it is no good to have money on you. Just have some, the more the better.

7) Trying to pay with a maxed out credit card. Pay these down and keep this down.

8) An empty refrigerator. A mature person who cares about their health will keep at least a minimum level of food available.

9) Having no condoms.

10) Running out of any personal product.

11) Not having the contact information.

12) Wearing your worst clothes because your best clothes are dirty.

13) Being late for anything.

Just about any annoyance and frustration you have can be turned around by thinking about past annoyances and frustrations and planning from that.

Think about those old problems and then take steps to not let those problems happen again. Write down your past frustrating situations and determine what you can do to avoid those situations in the future.

So often, when a problem is solved or over we are relieved and then forget about it and move on.

Then the problem happens again later and the cycle continues.

A huge problem for about half the people in the U.S .is winter.

Winter comes every year and yet most people are unprepared for it.

Hopefully, winter comes gently. If it starts getting cold early and we get light snows, people will see this and then start getting ready.

But sometimes, it hits like a prizefighter. Right in the face in an instant. It goes from nice to brutal in a few hours and this leaves people stranded, in the ditch and in bad shape.

These are the days when people are late to work because they didn't get up early to shovel snow and scrape the ice and snow off their cars and did not realize that it takes a lot longer to get somewhere in the winter.

These are the people trying to get to the store in a snowstorm to buy salt, shovels, food and household needs.

It is October 10 as I write this today and there are snow flurries and it is about 35 degrees.

I have my snow scraper and brush in my car. My car is full of gas and I am getting right out of bed when I should. My snow shovel is handy in the garage. My refrigerator is full. I do not need any household products or personal needs right now. I have my winter boots, wool socks, warm hat, big mittens and extra gloves in my car.

Are you doing any planning for winter?
