Prepare for Most Likely Problems
Prepare for the most likely problems you might encounter first. It makes no sense to spend time getting ready for a huge disaster if a small problem is a disaster for you. You would want to concentrate first on the most likely situations. If you are married and your spouse is treating you badly you would want to think about
leaving.
If you live in a northern climate you would want to be ready for winter conditions. If you live along the coast you would want to be ready for hurricanes. If you live near a fault line you would want to prepare for an earthquake. You should be spending some time each year doing these types of preparations. It should be obvious that this needs to be done. The evidence is constantly on the news describing what happens to people when these bad things happen. If you are in an industry that is declining and no longer needed then you would need to prepare for other ways to make a living. I know that doing this type of preparation is not that satisfying. It is much nicer and easier to go along figuring that nothing bad will ever happen. The way to make it easier is to just to allocate a little time here and there to the preparation time. Don't spend a full weekend doing this. I have listed the first easy things to do below: 1) Gas up your
car
and fill up when the gauge gets to half full. 2) Make any needed repairs to your car. 3) Keep the oil changed. 4) Carry plenty of cash. 5) Have a credit card with lots of credit available. 6) Have your debt paid down. 7) Know the roads. 8) Keep a little ahead of your personal needs. I don't stock up but I do buy the replacements when they are getting low. 9) Keep positive. 10) Keep your wits. The way to do this is to stay well rested, keep on top of things, events, news, stay mentally sharp. If you drink or take drugs, you need to avoid drinking so much or taking so much that you lose it. When you a staggering drunk, even for a few hours that is when bad things happen. I think it is o.k. to drink, just not so much that you are at the mercy of others. 11) Think things through. Be deliberate with your decisions. Think how what you are deciding will end up.
