Paper/Pen Tips
For Organized Living

One of the main tips to help you with getting organized is to have paper and pens located in all the spots you may need them.

People get hung up by insisting on the look of their homes. They may not want a bunch of paper and pens lying around.

I like a nice looking neat home also. So I just have paper/pen placed strategically and neatly where I am most likely to need them. I also believe more in the function of my home rather than in the look of my home. I want my home to serve me and not just be for looks.

I like to be prepared to make a few notes whenever and to capture ideas wherever I am.

If you have an idea you can just write it down if the paper and pen is handy.

If it isn't, chances are you will not get up to do that. This tip is big.

If you work at a desk in an office you will have paper and pens right at your fingertips. Don't you want to be prepared like that at home?

I have paper and pens or pencils located in the following areas:

1. By my favorite chair in the living room. I watch TV, listen to music, talk on the phone, use my laptop computer, read and take naps in that chair. I keep a stenographers pad and a jar with pens and highlighters on a little table just for that purpose. I also keep a post-it pad and calculator here also.

2. On my desk, obviously.

3. By my bed. It's true, I have had good ideas in the middle of the night.

4. In my kitchen. I keep a pad, pen, and post-it notes on top of my refrigerator. It's great for making out a grocery list as you see things you need when you are in the kitchen.

5. In my car. I have one of those visor holders that have holes for pens. I just slide a small pad under it also.

6. In my wallet. I keep a few index cards and a small pencil in my wallet.

7. In the garage.

8. In the workshop.

If you have more rooms, just have more pads and pens.

Tips like this will really help you. It's always better to get the information down on paper rather than relying on your memory.

You really cannot hope to be a well organized person without the use of pens and paper. It cannot happen.

A person who uses their memory for just remembering the day to day things is basically wasting the vast potential of their mind. You want to be able to capture your ideas whenever and wherever they occur. You do not want to have a potentially life altering idea and then not have a way to write it down. Without having the means to write things down, you squander all the good ideas you may have.

This idea of saving paper and making writing so difficult is a means of keeping people stupid. I do not wish to use my memory to keep track of whether I need something at the store. I use lists. I am continually thinking and planning and coming up with ideas. I need to have the means to capture all this. This means I have pens and paper wherever I am.
